Skiing in Megève: the Évasion Mont-Blanc area, sectors and passes

Skiing in Megève means a large, sunny area starting from a real village. The resort gives access to Évasion Mont-Blanc, one of France’s biggest linked areas with around 400 km of pistes shared between Megève, Saint-Gervais, Combloux, La Giettaz and Les Contamines-Montjoie. Broad, varied terrain, geared more towards pleasure and long ski tours than extreme thrills.

The sectors

Rochebrune: above the village, served by a historic cable car. Gentle, wooded runs, ideal for beginners and families.
Mont d’Arbois: the largest sector, linked to Saint-Gervais and Le Bettex. Long sunny pistes and Mont Blanc views.
Le Jaillet: on the Combloux and La Giettaz side, quieter, perfect for relaxed skiing.
Mont Joly: the top of Mont d’Arbois, with the steepest slopes for strong skiers.

Who it suits

Megève is an ideal resort for families and beginner to intermediate skiers: wide slopes, plenty of pleasant blues and reds, a relaxed mood. Experts find fewer steep runs than at high-altitude resorts, but Mont Joly and guided off-piste offer enough to enjoy. The area also does cross-country skiing well, with fine routes across the plateaus.

Booking

Évasion Mont-Blanc passes are bought from the resort, online or at the lift ticket offices. For lessons, head to the ESF or a local ski school, and book early during school holidays. If you combine several days and sectors, the Évasion Mont-Blanc pass covers the whole linked area.

Good to know

Moderate altitude. The village sits at 1,113 m. Snow cover can be patchy early and late in the season; snowmaking secures the key sectors.

Best timing. January and February for snow, December for the festive atmosphere. Avoid the peak of school holidays if you can.

Beyond the pistes. Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, sledding, the ice rink and dog-sledding hikes round out the stay, even for non-skiers.

Getting around. Shuttles link the village to the various lift bases; no need to take the car every morning.
