Dog-sledding hikes in Megève: the mountain with a dog team

The dog-sledding hike is one of the finest ways to discover Megève’s mountains in winter, and one of the least known. The idea: you’re linked by a towline to one or two Nordic dogs, and you move together along the snowy trails, the animal providing the drive, the walker keeping control. This isn’t sledding where you’re a passenger, but a real walk shared with the dogs, open to all.

How it works

The outing begins with meeting the team and a few instructions: how to attach yourself to the dog, manage the pace, communicate with it. Then you set off on the trails, gently towed, on a route matched to the group’s level. The dogs, huskies or other Nordic breeds, love to run and set a surprisingly gentle rhythm once you get the knack. Between stretches, there’s time for petting and photos.

Who it’s for

It’s a family activity above all, a big hit with children. No experience is needed: the musher accompanies and adapts throughout the outing. For the youngest, some formats let you be towed sitting rather than standing. It’s also a lovely alternative for those who want to experience the snow away from the pistes.
