In summer, Morzine’s ski area turns into a vast hiking ground. From the banks of the Dranse to the ridges of the Portes du Soleil, the trails cross forests, pastures and goat villages, with viewpoints opening over the whole Chablais and, far off, Mont Blanc. There’s something for every pair of legs, from the family stroll to the ridge route.
Where to walk
- Around Lake Montriond: flat and shaded, the easiest, perfect with the family (see the Lake Montriond page).
- Les Lindarets, the goat village: a mountain hamlet where goats roam free, reached on foot or by gondola, a family favourite.
- Pointe de Nyon and the Chamossière: summits reachable via the lifts, for a big panorama without climbing it all on foot.
- The Portes du Soleil ridges: more committing routes, up to the Col de Cou and the Swiss border.
Making the most of it
The gondolas that run in summer let you gain height and walk back down, ideal to spare the legs and enjoy the summits. A guided outing with a mountain leader helps choose the right route, read the landscape and discover the wildlife and flora of the pastures.
Booking
The trails are free to access and waymarked. For guided hikes, wildlife watching or themed outings, contact the guides’ office and the Morzine-Avoriaz tourist office. Pedestrian lift passes are bought in the resort.
