At the heart of Yvoire, the Garden of the Five Senses is a poetic parenthesis, sheltered from the lanes. Laid out in the castle’s former kitchen garden, this enclosed, labyrinth-shaped garden was designed to awaken the five senses: you come as much for the beauty of the place as for the sensory experience.
What you discover
The garden is walked like a labyrinth of rooms of greenery, organised around the senses. You pass aromatic and fragrant plants (smell), textures to touch, flowers and colours for sight, fruits and vegetables for taste, and water features and birdsong for hearing. Labelled a Remarkable Garden, it’s one of the finest gardens on the lakeshore.
Booking
The garden is visited with a ticket, directly on site, depending on seasonal hours (it generally closes in winter). Allow about an hour to tour it at a leisurely pace. Check the hours with the Yvoire tourist office or the garden.
Good to know
Season. The garden is open from late spring to autumn, at its best in early summer; it closes in winter.
Duration. About an hour’s visit, pleasant at any pace.
