Megève has the good sense to sit at the centre of everything. In half an hour you’re at the foot of Mont Blanc in Chamonix; in an hour, on the shore of Lake Annecy. For those who’d rather not drive the mountain roads or prefer to follow a guide, several day excursions set off from Megève and its surroundings towards the finest sites in Haute-Savoie.
The destinations
- Chamonix and Mont Blanc: the must-do day, at the foot of the highest mountain in the Alps. Depending on the format, the excursion combines transport, free time and sometimes the major sites (Aiguille du Midi, Mer de Glace), without the headache of the road and parking.
- Lake Annecy: a complete change of scene with the “Venice of the Alps”, its old town and turquoise lake. An excursion can include transport, a guided tour and a cruise on the lake.
- Private 4x4 outing: for a more exclusive day, an off-road tour towards the heights and viewpoints, sometimes with a dinner at altitude. The Megève version of the escape.
Why go guided
Mountain roads are beautiful but demanding, and parking in Chamonix and Annecy is tricky in season. An organised excursion handles the logistics, adds a guide’s eye and lets you enjoy the scenery rather than the road. It’s also the ideal solution without a car on site.
