The abbey of Abondance is the valley’s heritage treasure. Founded in the Middle Ages and long an important religious centre of the Chablais, it preserves a church, a cloister famous for its frescoes and a religious-art museum. It’s one of the most striking cultural visits in mid-mountain Haute-Savoie, to enjoy in any season.

The highlight is the cloister, adorned with 15th-century frescoes depicting the life of the Virgin: a rare painted ensemble, despite the gaps left by time. The abbey church blends styles across the centuries, and the religious-art museum displays liturgical objects, statues and the valley’s treasures.
