In summer, the Giffre makes Samoëns one of the great whitewater spots in the Northern Alps. Fed by the snows of the Grand Massif and the Fer-à-Cheval cirque, the river offers clean rapids in a mountain setting, perfect for rafting. From the family discovery run to the sportier descent, you take it up safely, led by qualified guides.
Rafting on the Giffre
Rafting is done as a crew on an inflatable raft of several seats, paddle in hand, guided by a professional at the back. You string the rapids together, ride the waves, and enjoy a unique view of the valley, right at water level. It’s open to most, as long as you can swim and are comfortable in the water.
Who it’s for, and the other activities
Rafting suits families (subject to minimum age) and groups after thrills alike. Beyond it, the Giffre and its tributaries also lend themselves to canyoning and hydrospeed for the more adventurous. The water level varies with the season and the melt: the guides adapt the route.
