The electric mountain bike has changed things in Chamonix: the motor absorbs the climbing, and you reach balconies and alpine pastures that otherwise meant a long day on the legs. You keep the fun of riding the descents, without suffering on the way up.
Ways to ride
- Guided tour to the viewpoints: a guide takes the group to the best panoramas over the glacier and Mont Blanc, handling the route and the pace.
- To hidden alpine pastures: quieter outings off the busy trails, through forests and meadows.
- Self-guided with a GPS track: for the independent, a route loaded on GPS, at your own pace.
- Simple rental: take the bike and build your own day.
Who it’s for
With the motor, you don’t need to be fit: a cyclist comfortable on tracks does fine. Riding the descents, though, needs some trail experience. There are formats for beginners and for confident riders alike.

Good to know
Season. Most of it runs from late May to October, once the trails are clear of snow.
Helmet and brakes. On an e-bike you pick up speed fast: a helmet is essential, and check the brakes before setting off.
Respect shared trails. The paths belong to hikers and herds too. Slow down, signal, close the gates behind you.
Range. A battery usually lasts a good half-day at a normal pace; rental shops give the range for each route.
